Trustee Yaro

Robert Yaro was born and raised in Edmonton Alberta. Trustee Yaro is a strong supporter and advocate for Catholic Education in Alberta. He attended Edmonton Catholic Schools, St. Matthew Elementary, St. Cecilia Junior High, graduating from Archbishop O’Leary High School in 1972. That year Robert enrolled in the University of Alberta, Faculty of Education majoring in Secondary Social Studies.

Trustee Yaro’s teaching career with Fort McMurray Catholic began in the fall of 1976, at St. Johns Junior High School. Like most teachers who arrive in Fort McMurray he planned to gain some experience then move on. In 1982, with the opening of Father Mercredi CHS, he transferred in order to teach Social Studies 9 and 10. In addition to Social at various times he instructed Religion 9, 15, 20, 25, 35 and CALM. While at Father Mercredi Trustee Yaro served on the Administration Team as Department Head for Phys. Ed, Social Studies, and Religion.

In 2001 he was granted sabbatical leave with the understanding that he would study theology. In 2002 Trustee Yaro was granted a Graduate Diploma in Religious Education from Newman Theological College in Edmonton. Upon completion of the Diploma he applied for and was appointed Religion Department Head.

Trustee Yaro retired in 2010 with 34 years of serving Catholic Education in the community. After retirement,Trustee Yaro was appointed Pastoral Coordinator for St. Johns and St. Paul’s Parish. Currently Trustee Yaro serves as Minister of the Word at St. Paul’s Parish. While at Father Mercredi Trustee Yaro was an advisor for the Travel Club. Trustee Yaro has supported Santas Anonymous, since the partnership was first established with the Kinsman of Fort McMurray.

Throughout this teaching career Trustee Yaro was actively involved in the Alberta Teachers Association with ATA Local 48. Provincially, he was a member of the Teacher Welfare Committee. For nine years he was a Pension Consultant for the ATA.

Trustee Yaro is an avid amateur archeologist, having received his training with the University of Alberta at two excavations in Italy. In Israel he has taken part in the excavations of Tel Rehov, Tel Safi/Gath and Tel Burna. When he is not travelling to London,Rome, or the US, Trustee Yaro is the servant of Frankie a pampered Ragdoll kitty!
