Do Small Things With Great Love

“Little children, let us love, not in word or speech, but in truth and action.” – 1 John 3:18

This year, our Faith Theme employs the wise words of St. Teresa of Calcutta who told the world; ‘Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.’

Her call to action inspires us to complete small, daily acts of kindness and to do so with hearts of love. Of the three theological virtues, faith, hope, and charity, charity is considered the most important as it inspires and animates the other two. Through charitable works and acts of service, we inspire faith in God and kindness in others.

The principles of Catholic Social Teaching encourage us to care for the poor and vulnerable, participate in community, act in solidarity, and be stewards of God’s creation. We achieve these goals through small, everyday acts of love by which we value community and persons.

At the last supper, Jesus gave his disciples his greatest commandment;

“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Inspired by Jesus, and with the strength of the Holy Spirit, everyone will know that we are His disciples through our actions of love.
