FMCSD Solidarity Statement- Local Memorial

A memorial was disrespected and vandalized over the weekend in downtown Fort McMurray. The Residential Schools memorial was more than hundreds of pairs of shoes and other memorabilia- it was a heartbreakingly beautiful tribute to those lost and those whose lives were forever altered.

They are our knowledge keepers.

They are our families.

They are our past, our present, and our future.

We all can do better. We all have a part to play in reconciliation.

Fort McMurray Catholic Schools condemns this act of hatred in the strongest terms. There is no place in our community for these kinds of heinous acts. Every Child Matters.

The national Indian Residential Schools Crisis Line has been set up to provide support for former students and those affected. People can access emotional and crisis referral services by calling the 24-hour crisis line: 1-866-925-4419. As well as local assistance can be provided by Some Other Solutions 24/7 through their crisis line: 780.743.HELP (4357).
