Contact Notifications Update

Good afternoon Fort McMurray Catholic Schools families,

We have been so happy to see and hear students back within the hallways of Fort McMurray Catholic Schools. With our students in class, our hearts feel whole again.

We do have a couple of updates to share with you this afternoon.

Contact Notifications

As you are most likely aware Alberta Health Services has discontinued the process of informing school divisions when there is a positive case in a child possibly infectious while in class. We in Fort McMurray Catholic Schools feel strongly that we must continue the process of being as transparent as possible when we are made aware of a case possibly infectious in class. Fort McMurray Catholic Schools will continue to notify families. We also recognize that during this wave of COVID-19 in the community this is an overwhelming and taxing commitment for our staff.

Beginning Monday we will begin sharing with school families one email at the end of each day with general information about cases possibly infectious while in school. We have been doing this at our High Schools for one week already with great success. We trust this is a good compromise between being as transparent as possible in these times, and our operational capacity as a School Division. If there are no cases reported to us on a given day regarding any classes in your school, you will not receive an email in the early evening.

If you report a case to your teacher/school and are adamant it not be included in our daily reporting please let your teacher/school know when you inform them of your situation.

Possible Transitions to Virtual Learning

Fort McMurray Catholic Schools will continue to be as transparent and honest as possible. There may come times when due to positive tests/illness or staffing challenges we will have to make tough decisions.

When it comes to any possible transition to virtual learning for a class, grade, or school we will communicate this information to families as quickly as possible.

We all agree the best place for students is in the classroom, but the safety and security of our students and staff will always be our first priority.

Friendly Reminders

  • Please complete the updated daily health checklist every day before school
  • If your child has any symptoms, please do not attend school
  • Please wear a mask
  • Please exhibit your best pandemic behaviour as we remember that schools are a reflection of the community

Thank you for your continued support,

Fort McMurray Catholic Schools
