Back to School Guide 2021/22

Good afternoon Fort McMurray Catholic Schools families,

As we are sure you are already aware, late last week the provincial government updated their guidance documentation for the 2021/22 school year. The full guidance document can be found online. 

Today we wish to share with you our Fort McMurray Catholic Schools plan for the 2021/22 school year. 

This plan includes the provincial government planning documents, as well as input from our public and staff surveys. We are thankful for all of the stakeholder consultation in our Fort McMurray Catholic Schools Back to School Guide. 

The Government of Alberta has rescinded many restrictions in certain settings, but school divisions have the authority to take a more cautious approach. Fort McMurray Catholic Schools will ensure we are doing everything we can to make our schools safe for our students and staff to focus on learning. 

We wish to highlight some aspects of our plan: 

• It will be strongly recommended for students wear masks while in school, especially in common areas (hallways, class change) 
• Staff will wear masks in common areas of school (eg. hallways, class change)
• All visitors to schools will wear masks
• Masks will be mandatory for all on school buses and public transit
• It will still be mandatory to complete a daily health checklist
• At the direction of the Chief Medical Officer of Health, schools no longer inform close contacts of positive cases 
• Parents of children who test positive for COVID-19 are encouraged to report cases to their school administration. All reporting continues to be confidential
• Staff members, parents, and children/students should not enter the school if they have symptoms of COVID-19. 
• Additional health measures may be implemented as the COVID-19 situation evolves, or if outbreaks occur

Fort McMurray Catholic Schools continues to work closely with Alberta Education and Alberta Health to ensure appropriate health and safety protocols are followed in our schools. 

As well we wish to share a friendly reminder the deadline to register for our Virtual Learning Academy is Monday August 23rd at noon.
