“What an excellent weekend of high school football in Fort McMurray! We are proud to have been part of hosting the 2018 Alberta Bowl. When football initially started at the high school level in Fort McMurray in the mid 90’s this was our dream. Thank you to all of volunteers who made this weekend a great success. Congratulations to all of these young student athletes and especially to the recently crowned Alberta Bowl champions!” said Fort McMurray Catholic Schools Superintendent George McGuigan.
“Congratulations to all the teams on an excellent Alberta Bowl. This was high school sportsmanship at its best. We were honoured to host you. Thank you once again to all our partners in making this happen,” said Doug Nicholls, Superintendent, Fort McMurray Public School District.
“I would like to thank our amazing volunteers, sponsors and supporters for making this event a huge success. The number one comment we received from our visitors is that Shell Place and SMS Stadium were one of the nicest facilities they have ever played in. Considering games featured out of town teams, the crowds were amazing and the atmosphere was Canadian football in November at it’s finest,” enthused Brendan Toner, Chair, Alberta Bowl 2018.
“I think the Alberta Bowl proves Fort McMurray and the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo are capable and have the resources to pull off top quality provincial events. This should be able to get us in on the conversation for bigger and better football opportunities in the future,” Toner added.
