The best of Alberta high school football is coming to Fort McMurray this month. The Alberta Bowl will be hosted at SMS Equipment Stadium at MacDonald Island Park on November 23 and 24, 2018.
The Wood Buffalo Football League, Fort McMurray Catholic Schools, Fort McMurray Public School District, Alberta Schools’ Athletic Association (ASAA), and the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo are proud to host the five Alberta Bowl championship games.
On Friday night we will see the 6 Man and Tier 4 champions crowned. Saturday will feature three championship games for Tiers 3, 2, and 1. We expect to see the top football student athletes in the province competing for the pinnacle of their sport in Fort McMurray.
“We are proud to be part of hosting the 2018 Alberta Bowl. Bringing five championship games to our community will be an exciting event. I think back to when we started football in this community at Father Mercredi High School in the mid 90’s. Look how far we have come! Student athletes are now earning university scholarships. Congratulations and thank you to all those volunteers who helped over the years. Welcome athletes and best of luck in your Bowl game,” shared Fort McMurray Catholic Schools Superintendent George McGuigan.
“We are honoured to have Brendan Toner, our Westwood Community High School Vice Principal chair the Alberta Bowl. Brendan is a well-known name in the football community, and we know the competition will thrive under his leadership. Kudos to all student athletes participating in this highly-anticipated tournament. Welcome to Fort McMurray,” said Doug Nicholls, Superintendent, Fort McMurray Public School District.
“Fort McMurray has an excellent relationship with the ASAA and Football Alberta. We are thrilled to be able to host this event and bring visitors to our amazing community,” noted Brendan Toner.
“Our plan is to let the facility speak for itself and to have teams from around the province have a top quality football experience. Being awarded this chance to host the ultimate event for high school football in Alberta is a testament to the hard work that players and coaches have done to put Fort McMurray on the provincial football map over the last 15 years,” Toner added.
Ten of the top high school football teams in the province kick off the tournament at SMS Equipment Stadium starting November 23. For the full schedule and latest information please visit the Alberta Bowl 2018 website: http://www.asaa.ca/championships/site/2018-alberta-bowl.
