Fort McMurray Catholic Schools is pleased to share exciting changes coming from Alberta Education. Province wide you will see in the near future the age of entry for school becoming more consistent in Alberta, and being a great benefit for children and families.
We are working closely with our friends at Fort McMurray Public School District to ensure these changes are consistent in our community.
Fort McMurray Catholic Schools Deputy Superintendent- Inclusive Education Monica Mankowski, “This change is of a great benefit to our students. We understand change can be confusing, but these dates have long term benefit for learning for all of our children. Our families will still have the same access to our student centred early learning programs, and they will enter at a more age appropriate time in their lives.”
Fort McMurray Catholic Schools Early Learning Consultant Janice Molloy, “We are excited to be able to stagger this change over the course of a couple of years. We want to continue to improve and offer the highest quality and researched based programs for our little ones. We never forget the trust that families put in us when they send their child to school for the first time. We trust this will ensure age appropriate placements for your child when you join the Fort McMurray Catholic Schools family.”
Fort McMurray Catholic Schools Early Entry Ages:
2018/19 School Year
Early Entry Program – Child turns 3 year old on or before March 1st, 2018
Kindergarten – Child turns 4 years old on or before March 1st, 2018
2019/2020 School Year
Early Entry Program – Children born in 2015 will be eligible for EEP
Kindergarten – Children born between March 2, 2014- March 1, 2015
2020/2021 School Year
Early Entry Program – Children born in 2016 will be eligible for EEP
Kindergarten – Children born in 2015 will be eligible for Kindergarten
Mankowski adds this is a change that is all about doing what is best for all children, “We expect this change to result in more student success. Age appropriateness at this stage of development is so important for our youth. Having a strong start in the school system has shown lasting benefits to our children during their entire time in the Fort McMurray Catholic Schools family.”
