Assessment is the process that teachers use to gather information about what students know, understand and can do. Students are assessed based upon the learning outcomes that are set by Alberta Education.
Teachers use methods of assessment to gather a whole picture of what students know, understand and are able to do. The information gathered through observations, conversations with students, and the products that students produce, is used to help teachers identify what and how to teach next. It is also used to give feedback to students on areas where they are demonstrating success or ways they can improve their understanding.
