Transportation – High Schools

Transportation services for students attending Holy Trinity or Father Mercredi High School are provided following the Alberta School Act, the Alberta Student Transportation Regulations, the Funding Manual for School Authorities and the Catholic Board Transportation Policy.

Eligibility and Designated School
Eligibility for transportation is based on the distance between the home and the designated school of the student.  School designation depends on grade,  program of studies and location of the residence as follows:

Holy Trinity High School is the designated school for:

English Program of Studies:  All students residing in the Timberlea Area
French Immersion:  All students in Fort McMurray (North and South)
Performing Arts Specialized Programs including Dance Academy:  All students in Fort McMurray (North and South)

Father Mercredi High School is the designated school for:

English Program of Studies:  All students residing south of the Athabasca River, Thickwood and Dickensfield
Career Technology Studies (CTS):  Students enrolled to an advanced level in a specialized program of studies requiring equipment available only at Father Mercredi High School. This includes students enrolled in the Power Engineering, Engineering, Instrumentation, Electrical or Millwright career pathways  or the Mechanics, Fabrication (Welding) Studies (Welding) or  Cosmetology programs at the High School Level (Grades 10 to 12).

Transportation Services

The following transportation services will be provided to eligible students at a cost of $150 per school year:

South of Athabasca River

Saprae Creek and Prairie Creek:
Yellow Bus to Father Mercredi High School for English Language Programs

Yellow Bus to Holy Trinity High School for French Immersion or Performing Arts Students

Gregoire, Beacon Hill, Waterways, Draper, Abasand, Downtown:

English Program – Middle School only (Grades 7 – 9):  Yellow Bus to Father Mercredi High School

English Program – High School:  Transit Pass is provided to students

French Immersion or Performing Arts:  Yellow bus to Holy Trinity for all grades

North of Athabasca River

All students will use RMWB Transit to travel to either Father Mercredi or Holy Trinity High School

Non Eligible students

Students that reside 2.4 km or less from their designated school are not eligible for subsidized transportation services.  However they may purchase a City Transit pass at a cost of $34.25 per month.  The bus pass may also be purchased at the High School at a cost of $35.

City Transit

The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo is implementing a new transit system for school year 2011/12 with three major transfer points in the Regional Municipality. Frequent services will bring riders to the transit points located at Thickwood Arena (across from Father Mercred High School), the Extra Foods Mall (close to Holy Trinity High School). The schedule will allow students to attend either Catholic High Schools if they wish.  More information on the new transit system is available on the Web Site of the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo.
