Three-year predictable funding for school boards

The Government of Alberta presented their 2012 Budget on February 9th.  Probably the most significant highlight of this year’s budget is the announcement of a three-year funding cycle for school boards. This means the base instruction and class size grants will increase by 1%, 2% and 2% over the next three years, while other grant areas will increase by 2% each for each of the next three years. Education funding is provided to school boards through a number of funding allocations or grants.  The majority of these allocations are based on the number of students that the jurisdiction serves.  Some allocations take into account other factors, such as where the jurisdiction is located.  The 2012/2013 Projected Operational Funding for the Alberta School Board is available on the Alberta Education Web Site. The funding for the Fort McMurray Catholic Board of Education is available here.
