FAQ-Kindergarten

What is Kindergarten?

Entering Kindergarten in the Fort McMurray Catholic School Board is an exciting time for your child and an important first step in their Catholic education. Our language rich early learning programs help children develop and grow spiritually, emotionally, intellectually, physically as well as socially.  Alberta Education develops the curriculum for Kindergarten in consultation with early childhood teachers.  It describes what young children need to learn to prepare for Grade 1 and provides a foundation for future learning.

For more information on Kindergarten in Alberta, download a copy of “Kindergarten in Alberta – a Handbook for Parents” (Catholic School Version) from the Alberta Education Website at: www.education.alberta.ca/parents/resources/handbook.aspx

Do I or my child needs to be Catholic to attend the Kindergarten Program?

Fort McMurray Catholic Schools welcome members of other faith communities in their schools and respect their beliefs.  However, this shall not reduce the freedom of Catholic Schools to openly study, practice and celebrate their own Catholic Faith.

Parents of students that are not Catholic will be required to meet the Principal of their school at the start of the school year to discuss these expectations.
