FAQ-Early Learning

What is the Early Entry Program?

The Early Entry program is a language rich program that focuses on learning through play where children interact, explore, and make sense of the world around them.  The program is delivered in a small classroom setting, allowing the learning team to address the unique learning needs of the children.

Early Entry Programs are offered by a Certificated teacher. It offers rich oral language opportunities and learning through play and the fine arts.  The program is supported by a multi-disciplinary team that includes Early Learning Consultants, Speech-Language Pathologist, Occupational Therapist, Physical Therapist and Psychologist

What is Family Orientated Programming?

Family orientated programming is offered throughout the school year free of charge to parents/caregivers and children who are attending our early learning programs. These family orientated programs enhance the children’s learning, and gives parents support in key areas.  Families will be invited to meet with our team’s Speech-Language, Physical and Occupational Therapists for fun interactive workshops.  They will have the opportunity to learn ways to incorporate early literacy skills into everyday routines through books, songs and rhymes.  There will also be informative workshops to explore positive strategies for parenting your child.

How old must my child be to register for the Early Entry Program?

Your child must be 3 years, six months old before September 1, 2012 to register for school year 2012/13.

Is transportation provided for the Early Entry Program?

For safety reasons transportation for our Early Learning Programs is provided by the parents as students are too young to travel on regular Yellow Buses.

Transportation services may be made available for students with physical disabilities requiring special transportation.  The Director of Student Services, in consultation with the Principal and the Secretary-Treasurer, will determine the need and type of transportation required for students with physical disabilities.

What is the schedule for the Early Entry Program?

The Early Entry program runs from September to June.  All of our elementary schools offer 3-hour, half-day programs, both morning and afternoon.

How much does it cost?

Parents are required to pay the Elementary School Supplies and Material Fee which will be approved by the Board as part of the 2011/12 budget.  The fee for 2011 is $75.

Do you have to be Catholic to register for the Early Entry Program in a Catholic School?

Fort McMurray Catholic Schools welcome members of other faith communities in their schools and respect their beliefs.  However, this shall not reduce the freedom of Catholic Schools to openly study, practice and celebrate their own Catholic Faith.

Parents of students that are not catholic will be required to meet the Principal of their school at the start of the school year to discuss these expectations.
